Internet Security at School: An Opportunity for Channel Pros
Joshua Block is acutely aware of the threats to school children that lurk on the Internet. As the vice president for North American operations at Cyberoam, a division of Elitecore Technologies and a leading provider of identitybased UTM (unified threat management) solutions, Block has firsthand knowledge that content filtering software in schools is often not enough to stop spyware, malware, or phishing. ChannelPro Editor and Publisher Michael Siggins sat down with Block to discuss the federal Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), the E-Rate program, and the services that integrators, resellers, and other channel pros can offer schools struggling to comply with ever-changing regulations. Here are some highlights:
• CIPA requires that schools and libraries that receive discounted telecommunications services under the E-Rate program block or filter Internet images that are obscene, contain child pornography, or are otherwise harmful to children.
• Solution providers are often completely unaware of the sales opportunities available under the E-Rate program.
• Provider opportunities include developing solutions for content filtering, firewall, anti-virus, anti-spam, and intrusion detection and prevention.
